So I played a bit of God of war on my ps4 tonight and I though it was really cool. I liked god of war 3 a lot and this seems be just as awesome. However the quality of the graphics wasn't that great, lots of blurriness and pixelation unfortunately. I have 54 Mbps down (according to speed test) but it still wasn't looking 100%.
I had the same issue as you when I wanted to download God of War. I freed up about 70 GBs and then downloaded the game. After installing, the extra ~34 Gb will be freed up automatically and THEN you can update it either by launching or by pressing triangle and checking manually. When all is said and done it'll take up 37 GB total.

With that said, I just finished God of War Ascension on the PS3 earlier this month and it was a treat, got the plat trophy too. And this was 72p/20-30fps. Enjoyed every second and it was still gorgeous. Tbh you'd be fine on the ps5.

After playing through God of War: Ragnarök, I thought I'd play through the whole series chronologically. Since Ascension is the first part chronologically and has not been remade on the consoles, I thought I would give rpcs3 a chance and was more than surprised, that I was able to complete the whole game, as I tried the title from time to time and it crashed regularly.

God of War: Ascension [BCUS98232]Started by wffl. Tried with v 0.0.6-8457. Black screen after Santa Monica's logo, sometimes it appears the loading icon but nothing else. Finally beaten the game from start to finished with minor crashes/hanging/freezing.
